Carrots by Candlelight
VegOut is the inspirational community garden in St Kilda. Alongside Luna park in St Kilda on the site of a defunct Bowling Green, artists have set up studios in the club house and they and others nurture vegetables, flowers and community spirit there.
Groups of people are invited to become contributors to suaimediaspace and join the story of friendship with East Timor. If you are web/blog savvy you can email me and begin one right away. If not you have to wait until later in the year when the site is finished and I can help you set it up. It’s not difficult.
Liz Milsom, a member of VegOut and the St Kilda Bowling Club Studios introduced herself at a meeting of the Friends of Suai last year because she was applying for a grant travel to Suai to undertake an art project there.
Liz’s father who passed away in the 60’s was a member of the Australian 2/4th Company who fought the Japanese in East Timor in WW2. Unfortunately Liz was unlucky and didn’t get the grant but now VegOut have expressed interest in a donation to Suai. A request came from Suai for about $1,600 to pay to set up a garden in a school for practical teaching of permaculture. So the Friends of Suai have sent a message back to VegOut management to see if they were interested in donating towards this. In the meantime Liz told us about Carrots by Candlelight.
Now they have funded the permaculture garden and we are waiting to hear what happens in Suai.
