Suai Media Space offers opportunities for interaction with young people in East Timor Suai to help them to become connected and build livelihoods.
Friendship between Pt Phillip and Suai is facilitated by the the Friends of Suai in Pt Phillip and Suai The Covalima Youth Centre, and the Youth Media Centre . The International Centre for Journalists (East Timor) (ICFJ) are facilitating the arrival of Broadband to the Youth Media Centre (YoMaTre). The moment for the seemingly impossible reality, of direct cross-border communication, hoped and planned for over nine years, is arriving.
The documentary-maker and editor on the site is Jen Hughes. The Co-ordinator of the Covalima Youth Centre Ergilio Vicente is my partner organising volunteers and training in Suai. The impulse for the site came from the formation of the Friends of Suai in Pt Phillip, in 2000 combined with an enduring interest in trauma, justice, loss and recovery. I work with the assistance of partners and sponsors, as well as professional people who work as a consulting group under the name of the Suai Media Arts Group. Following consultation with Ergilio, who was student leader for Suai in 2000, and with only my time, network and skills, I set out to test the concept of a global friendship instigated in my local neighbourhood and make a documentary about it. The result is evolving on Suai Media Space.
