When I asked Sergio what this drawing was about he replied “These are refugees who have returned from West Timor - it’s about the happiness of seeing and the sadness of knowing”.

For Sergio, this drawing of the Saint Maria Goretti  represents the story of a young Timorese woman who was a hero of the resistance who was jailed, bestialised and murdered because of her work.

Sergio’s comment about this drawing of Xanana in 2000 - “A leader suffering in Gaol for his country”

In 2008 when asked about how he would represent the leader now, he responded: ” seated on a chair held up by the little people”.
