I met Rufino in February 2006 on the occasion of the 30th Anniversary of the first death in East Timor during World War 2. View video interview. She interviewed many of the Australian soldiers who served in East Timor and met some of the Timorese men. She became friends with Rufino who worked for Tom Nisbet.
That’s Rufino on the left obviously. This photo has been ripped off video I shot at the 30th Anniversary of the first death of WW2 in East Timor, being held in Dare in February 2006. Elizabeth Exposto took me and she and Palmira Pires helped me get the interview with Rufino. Palmira’s brother Fernando Pires translated. It all happened rather suddenly, and I never got the name of the Australian man.
